Reading What I Wrote

Reading What I Wrote

Feed back about my work has been mixed lately, those that liked it read it aloud; those who didn't like it didn't. Once my poems were read aloud, those that didn't suddenly did. So, I post this advice: read my poems out loud, you might just hear something you didn't know was there...

Too Busy

Working, playing, eating, laughing
Too much to do in a day
Which part of your life do you give up
When "stuff" gets in the way?
Do you give up playing
In lieu of work?
Do you do it because
Your boss is a jerk?
Do you give up eating
To be sexy and thin?
Do you do it because
It is how you think you will win?
Do you give up laughter
In the face of pain?
Or do you put yourself first
And play in the rain?
Think about the choices you make
Don't be afraid of chances to take
Remember to put yourself first
Being too busy, is only a curse..

On The Fly

Grab that thought
Write it down
Don't think about
Who will frown
Just transcribe the feeling
Without regret
Before your heart
Does forget
Because while pain lingers
Too long it seems
Joy is traveling
Through your dreams
Capture it while you can
Before it gets away
For it will change all too soon
Such as night turns to day

Ice Storm

Ice covers the nearby lake
Then disappears while I'm awake
It cracks, breaks then sinks below
The water's surface; now aglow
Reflecting sunlight throughout the day
Keeping less important thoughts at bay
For soon the sun will sink again
Bringing back the ice then
Crystals forming one by one
Playing their game, having fun
Before they crack, break, and sink
Leaving us again in the drink....

Outside Chair

Bright orange chair
In front of a deep black door
Sitting alone atop a staircase
Waiting for someone
Something
Anything at all
A strong wind
A tired dancer
A few flurries of snow
Maybe even some activity below
Keeping a vigil
Even without patience
Or consequence
Except rust

Reference Points

Understanding comes from translation
Translation comes from a reference point
Without the beginning, or the end,
or even a middle
Information is lost, unusable
If you can't relate, or pull it in
It is because there was no where to begin
To translate that life to yours
Or that word into meaning
There must be a common thread to pull upon
Commonality which breeds understanding
Otherwise a speck of dust floating in a vacuum
Will hang forever in the void

It Belongs To The Day

Where does the time go? Away.
Why can't we keep it? It belongs to the day.
Why can't we speed it up or slow it down?
We are not its master.
It belongs to the day.
Forever fleeting, always retreating.
Never ours to keep.
Years go by, days grow short,
Wrinkles get deep.
We watch it fly by when having fun,
Or fade away with the setting sun.
We ache as clocks tick the hours by,
When something dreadful is nearby.
Going to lunch,
Going to work,
Going to spend the day...
Even though it is never mine to pay.

Gambling

The only reason to gamble
Is a desire to win big
So when we retrace our steps
And try to relive
A gamble made to regain
What we once had in
Feelings, emotions, good times
Once we begin....
We see our gamble losing
Our forces compound
Yet our past rekindled
Cannot be found
A gamble made, lost
A lesson learned
Never eat at a bad place twice
You're bound to get burned
